There is a fault in Babar Azam’s batting technique: Aamer Sohail
Sohail also said that Misbah-ul-Haq needs to work on Babar's issue so that the prolific batsman emerges as an even bigger threat against the opposition.
On the back of his consistency across all formats, Babar Azam has emerged as Pakistan’s flagbearer in recent times. The prolific batsman has impressed everyone with his batting skills and has paved his way to the elite league of modern-day greats.
The 25-year-old made his international debut back in 2015 and since then he has turned himself into the run-machine for his national side. Babar’s batting spree proves his worth as he averages above 45 in every format of the game. The right-hander’s cover drive is one of the best in the world and it’s a delight for any fan to watch Babar toying with bowlers when he is on song.
However, seems like not everyone is a fan of Babar’s technique. Former Pakistan opening batsman Aamer Sohail feels that the Babar has a faulty batting technique. Babar is currently ranked first, third and fifth in T20Is, ODIs and Tests respectively. However, Sohail believes that the right-hander needs to improve his setup and stance.
“There is a fault in Babar Azam’s technique related to his setup and stance. His trigger movement is slightly off, which could be because he wants to avoid getting bowled or LBW, but if he can correct that he can get into a better position and dominate the bowlers even more,” said Sohail while talking on his official YouTube channel.
Misbah-ul-Haq would have already identified this: Aamer Sohail
Sohail also said that Misbah-ul-Haq needs to work on Babar’s issue so that the prolific batsman emerges as an even bigger threat against the opposition.
“I hope that Misbah-ul-Haq would have already identified this and will do what’s necessary to fix this issue as this will make Babar an even bigger threat for the opposition,” he added.
Sohail also believes that Azam needs to learn the art of scoring runs through singles and doubles. When it’s hard to score boundaries, Babar needs to learn to shuffle the strike, according to Sohail.
“In order to become a great player, Babar needs to realize that there will come a point where he won’t be able to score runs easily,” he said. “Over 40 per cent of his runs come through boundaries but at times he won’t be able to hit them at will. To counter that he will have to play sensibly and score runs in singles and doubles but he needs to learn this art first.”
