There is an opportunity this summer to bring Alex Hales in: Eoin Morgan
Alex Hales had made his debut for England in a T20I game against India on August 31, 2011.
In the recent past, the hard-hitting opening batsman Alex Hales has established himself as one of the most accomplished and established batsmen in the shortest format of the game by featuring in many T20 leagues across the globe. Despite some stunning performances under his belt, Hales is finding it difficult to break into England’s side as he lost the trust of the management especially the skipper Eoin Morgan.
Ales was one of the regular features in the English limited-overs squad but he fell out of the scheme after failing two tests for recreational drug use. The 32-year-old had last played for England in a T20I game against West Indies in March 2019 but was an outcast from the team on the eve of the ICC 2019 World Cup.
Speaking about the 32-year-old, England limited-overs skipper Eoin Morgan revealed that there is no doubt over the capabilities of the opening batsman but it will be tough for him to find a place in the set-up as the team already boasts of having a settled top-order. However, Morgan also indirectly gave hope of a comeback to Alex Hales by saying that the cricketer might be called for the trials in the summer.
Alex Hale’s situation is obviously very unique: Eoin Morgan
“Only time will tell. You look at the strength of our squad at the moment and areas that we’re trying to improve – one area we don’t struggle for players, it’s probably in the top three. His position is still the same. He’s not in the squad and the squad is very difficult to get back into.
“Alex’s situation is obviously very unique. The player that he is has never been in doubt. Obviously, time is a great healer. We learn more about players by bringing them into the nets. There is an opportunity this summer to bring him in,” said Eoin Morgan as quoted by Sportskeeda.
Alex Hales had made his debut for England in a T20I game against India on August 31, 2011. Thus far, the opening batter has featured in 70 ODIs and 60 T20 Internationals amassing a whopping 2419 and 1644 runs, respectively at a strike rate of 95.7 and 136.7.
