'There is only one' - Brad Hogg reveals the only flaw in KKR team ahead of IPL 2020
According to Hogg, there is still some friction between the Karthik and Russell which needs to be resolved quickly if KKR wants to deliver a strong performance this season.
Kolkata Knight Riders’ stalwarts– Dinesh Karthik and Andre Russell differed from each other’s opinion in the previous IPL edition. The explosive West Indies all-rounder felt that the team made some “bad decisions” which resulted in poor results in their IPL 2019 campaign.
KKR failed to qualify for the playoffs after finishing fifth in the league stage. Karthik, in a recent interview, claimed that he has sorted his differences with Russell but former KKR spinner Brad Hogg doesn’t feel so. According to Hogg, there is still some friction between the Karthik and Russell which needs to be resolved quickly if KKR wants to deliver a strong performance this season.
McCullum has to make sure he rectifies that relationship: Brad Hogg
“What is the one flaw in this team? There is only one – the relationship between Andre Russell and Dinesh Karthik. We can’t have Andre Russell come out in the media after the game and say we didn’t make the right decisions. That’s got to be done behind closed doors.
Brendon McCullum has to make sure he rectifies that relationship, gets on top of it early, because, if there is a little bit of disharmony in this line-up, it can have a ripple effect in a bio-secure environment, and things can get out of hand very quickly,” Hogg said on his YouTube channel.
Karthik, in July, had revealed that he has resolved all issues with Russell and he currently has a great relationship with the Caribbean giant. “He wasn’t not happy with me, he wasn’t happy that the team wasn’t winning, that is the bottomline. Whatever he said, I completely respected it.
He was a little apologetic as well. At the end of the day, I have a great relationship with him. That If I didn’t have a great relationship with him, it could have spiralled into something nasty,” Karthik had said on The RK Show on YouTube.
Meanwhile, Hogg also heaped praise on Sunil Narine and the versatility which he adds to KKR squad. “Yes, we know he (Sunil Narine) can bowl a little bit of off spin, but it’s his batting, versatility, that adds potency in this line-up. Because, he can open the batting, bat in the middle overs, also play some big shorts at the end to finish off the innings,” said Hogg.
