'There seems to be an open mutiny against Head Coach Justin Langer, Australia are in turmoil: Michael Vaughan
Michael Vaughan opined that Australian players who play a lot of franchise cricket have played in a relaxed environment, and might find Langer’s ways a bit ‘too much’ to handle.
Former England skipper Michael Vaughan reckons that the only thing that can act as a consolation for the England side right now is the fact that their arch-rivals, and their Ashes opponents for this year, Australia are also going through turmoil.
Vaughan further added that Australia has suffered poor results across formats and even endured an embarrassing loss against Bangladesh as well. Vaughan even opined that there is an open rebellion of sorts against Head Coach Justin Langer as well.
Vaughan also reckoned that Justin Langer has an abrasive presence, and will deliver harsh truths in confrontational language.
“If there is a consolation for England at the moment, it is that their opponents this winter, Australia, are also in turmoil. Results have been poor across several formats, culminating in an embarrassing T20 series defeat to Bangladesh, and there seems to be an open mutiny against Justin Langer, the head coach. Langer is an abrasive presence, someone who will not shy away from delivering harsh truths and often in pretty confrontational language,” wrote Michael Vaughan on his Facebook page.
The bond of trust in the Australian dressing room seems to have broken down: Michael Vaughan
Michael Vaughan further stated that Justin Langer had an abrasive presence even when he was a player, and cannot change his personality completely. Vaughan even reckons that the bond of trust in the Australian dressing room has broken down.
“Langer was wired that way as a player and while he has attempted to smooth some of those edges as the coach, he will never change completely. That has clearly rubbed some players up the wrong way and Australia now find themselves in a situation where the bond of trust between the dressing room and the coaching staff seems to have broken down – and we all know how that generally ends,” stated Vaughan.
Vaughan concluded by stating that the Australian players who play a lot of franchise cricket across the globe have played in a relaxed environment, and might find Langer’s ways a bit ‘too much’ to handle.
“I suspect that some of the Aussie players, who are used to playing in franchise leagues around the world where the environment is a lot more relaxed and the consequences of failure are not so extreme, simply find Langer a bit too much,” concluded Vaughan.
