There was no opportunity the way our overseas players were playing: Shakib Al Hasan
With Warner, Bairstow, Williamson, and Rashid occupying the four overseas players slot, Shakib knew it was difficult to slot him in.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad team must be licking their wounds after a heavy loss against the Chennai Super Kings, as a Shane Watson special made it just another day even as they were chasing 175 runs. SRH now has five wins and five losses from 10 matches and are placed at the fourth spot on the IPL 2019 points table.
SRH had batted first and though they lost Jonny Bairstow for a duck, David Warner (57) and Manish Pandey (83*) took advantage of a good Chepauk pitch to put 175 on the board. They started off well with the ball also, as Bhuvneshwar bowled a maiden to Watson and SRH got the wicket of Faf du Plessis. But then the burly Australian took over and smacked 96 off 53 balls to lead the team to a 6-wicket win.
The Sunrisers Hyderabad team sorely missed their astute captain Kane Williamson in this important match, as he had returned to New Zealand for personal reasons and this was also the last match for Australia’s David Warner and England’s Jonny Bairstow, who will return home to join their respective World Cup 2019 squads.
SRH looking to make changes to team combination as Warner, Bairstow leave
SRH all-rounder Shakib Al Hasan has just played two games in the ongoing IPL 2019 as the duo of Warner and Bairstow, coupled with Nabi and Rashid Khan made it difficult for the Bangladeshi superstar to make way into the team. But with the duo on their way out, Shakib decided to extend his stay with the franchise and will not join Bangladesh’s World Cup preparatory camp.
Speaking in the post-match press conference, Shakib showed hope that the team management will utilize him better now that they will be missing two of their best batsmen, who have been credited with their success this season.
“Jonny is leaving tomorrow, so we need to have a different plan. Obviously, the team management will have a look at the opposition and the condition and then they will think what is the best combination. Because we have such a strong squad, they have six to seven combinations and from there they need to pick one. They are the think tank and I am sure they will take the right decision,” Shakib said.

With Warner, Bairstow, Williamson, and Rashid occupying the four overseas players slot, Shakib knew it was difficult to slot him in. “The way our overseas players were playing, they couldn’t pick me. There was no opportunity. I knew that was going to happen as we have David Warner and Bairstow scoring 70 percent runs. It is hard to get a chance. I needed to ensure that I work hard and when my opportunities come, I can contribute,” the Bangladeshi all-rounder further added.
