'They are all low on confidence' - Russell Domingo on Bangladesh batters' poor show against West Indies

Bangladesh coach Russell Domingo, following a poor outing by the Bangladeshi batters in the first Test match against West Indies in the ongoing series, reckons that the batters are low on confidence at the moment. He was not impressed with the manner in which his batters were dismissed, saying that there were too many soft dismissals and poor decision-making with the bat.

Domingo believes that Bangladesh could have put up more runs into their total for both the innings if not for several soft dismissals in the match. Bangladesh managed to put up a total of 103 and 245 in the first and second innings respectively, and are on the brink of a defeat going into the fourth day.

“Batters are all low on confidence at the moment,” said Domingo, who was quoted as saying by India Today. “Some of the big players Mominul (Haque), (Najmul Hossain) Shanto are low in confidence. In cricket, confidence is a big thing and at the moment they just don’t have that confidence in their batting.”

“It’s not good. In both innings, too many soft dismissals and too many poor decisions with the batting and 103 runs in the first innings. We could have gotten more than that and 245 in the second innings could have gotten more than that, so it’s the bottom line. Too many soft dismissals in this particular Test match,” said Domingo, after the end of Day 3 of the Test match.

West Indies bowlers dominated the game right from the beginning of the match, dismissing three of the top four Bangladesh batters in the first innings for zero, and six batters overall in the innings. Seamer Jayden Seales was the pick of the bowlers, bagging three wickets for 33 runs. West Indies, in response, scored 265, taking a massive lead of 163, thanks to skipper Kraigg Brathwaite, who scored a crucial 94 runs.

Bangladesh, despite some resistance in their second innings, did not put enough on the board to come back into the match, as they could only set up a meagre target of 84. At the end of Day 3, West Indies are on 49 for three wickets and are well on their way to a victory on Day 4.
