Faf du Plessis, on Saturday, June 12, was dealt with a nasty accident while playing for the Quetta Gladiators in their match against Peshawar Zalmi at the Sheikh Zayed Stadium in Abu Dhabi. During the match in the 2021 Pakistan Super League (PSL), the 36-year-old veteran had a collision with fast bowler Mohammad Hasnain while fielding at the boundary.

In the seventh over of Zalmi’s innings, Faf’s head collided with Hasnain’s knee and the South African cricketer fell on the ground. As per reports in the Pakistan media, he was taken to the hospital for scans. Thereafter, du Plessis was seen, sitting in the dugout and the injury on his neck was pretty much palpable.

Faf du Plessis’ wife concerned

In the meantime, Imari Visser, Faf’s wife, had her heart in her mouth after the incident took place. Imari, who’s married to the Proteas cricketer since November 2013, stated that her husband should have been treated in the hospital.

Imari Visser took to her Instagram story and wrote, “This is killing me right now. Surely he should be checked in hospital?!??”

As far as the match was concerned, Saim Ayub was roped in as Faf’s concussion substitute for the match. In du Plessis’ absence, Ayub opened the batting alongside Usman Khan. The left-hander notched 35 runs off 31 balls with five fours before Mohammad Irfan accounted for his wicket.

The southpaw turned out to be the second-highest scorer in the Gladiators’ run-chase after Sarfaraz Ahmed’s 28-ball 36. While chasing 198 in their 20 overs, Quetta huffed and puffed and, in the end, managed to score only 136 runs and lost the game by 61 runs.

With the defeat, the Gladiators kept languishing at the bottom of the points table with two points from seven matches. With a net run rate of -1.865, Quetta need a miracle to qualify for the next round, the playoffs.

Their next match is against the Lahore Qalandars, led by Sohail Akhtar, on Tuesday, June 15, in Abu Dhabi itself. It remains to be seen whether or not Faf can make a comeback in the next game after the incident on Saturday night.
