This is the best Indian pace attack since I started following cricket: Ravi Bopara
He is currently playing his trade in the ongoing APL.
England all-rounder Ravi Bopara lauded the current group of Indian pacers saying this is the best attack India has produced since he began following the game. Despite losing the five-match Test series in England 1-4, India impressed one and all with their fast bowling.
The likes of Ishant Sharma, Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah and Hardik Pandya were all amongst the wickets in England. The pace quartet also bowled much faster than England’s seamers and was effective in conditions that usually suit James Anderson’s and Stuart Broad’s swinging deliveries.
About India’s recent Test series in England, Ravi Bopara felt the results didn’t exactly reflect what happened. “India played rather well and it wasn’t a 4-1 series; it was much closer. And I was really impressed by India’s pace bowlers. They were brilliant; the best of Indian seamers that I have seen in the 27 years that I have been following cricket. And Bhuvneshwar Kumar didn’t even play,” he was quoted as saying to Sportstar.
Afghanistan could be a strong side by 2023
Ravi Bopara is currently plying his trade at the Afghanistan Premier League (APL), where he was very impressed by the way the local players have performed in the tournament so far. He feels their national team could be a force to reckon with by the time the 2023 World Cup comes round. Afghanistan have already qualified for the 2019 World Cup and were also impressive during the recently concluded Asia Cup.
“They could do well in England, too, but they might find the conditions a bit difficult. In the World Cup after that, however, they could be fantastic. They already have some quality players like Rashid Khan, Mohammad Nabi and Mujeeb Ur Rahman, who could walk into most international sides,” he said.
While he thinks the APL is a good opportunity for him, Ravi Bopara feels the tournament could also unearth some new stars for Afghanistan, as has been the case in other T20 leagues around the world.
