David Warner did what he has always done every time he has strolled out to bat on home soil. Warner had come into the home summer on the back of a horrendous Ashes where he just couldn’t get past England’s Stuart Broad. Broad consistently attacked Warner from around the wicket and bowled on a fullish length and regularly challenged the southpaw’s outside edge and his pads.

As a result, Warner didn’t have any answers against the relentless and accuracy of Broad and was out a record (World record) seven times in 10 innings and could only manage 95 runs across then ten innings. But the Pakistani bowlers couldn’t do the same as Warner feasted on their inexperience and inconsistency and went to rack up 489- including a triple hundred- across the two Test matches.

Warner was awarded the Player of the Match as well as Player of the Series and the southpaw dedicated his performances to former Australian batsman Late Phil Hughes who died five years ago when a Sean Abbott bouncer, unfortunately, cut his life short.

“This win for us is a bit of memory and reflection of our mates’ life (talking about Philip Hughes). It’s always a difficult time for us. I looked up to the skies to him and every time we come here and play, we do that,” Warner said in the post-match presentation as quoted by the Indian Express.

Meanwhile, Warner also admitted that he was extremely relieved that Australian didn’t have to bat again and also touched on the time that he spent out of the side. Warner was handed a 12-month suspension following his role in the Cape Town ball-tampering scandal.

“I am very happy we didn’t have to bat again. The legs are okay, but I was so tired last night that I slept on the couch. Coming out here and playing against Pakistan, we knew they were going to put up a fight. I backed myself and just enjoyed it. I had a bit of time out of the game to reflect on a lot of things. Now that I am back here, I am enjoying it and hungrier than ever.” said Warner.

Australia will now lock horns with the No.2 ranked side in the world, New Zealand. The Kiwis are in very good form and boast of a quality bowling attack in the form of Tim Southee, Neil Wagner, Trent Boult, Lockie Ferguson, Matt Henry, and Warner is looking forward to the challenge.

“We are going to come up against a quality opposition in New Zealand. It’s always a good contest. The conditions are probably going to suit their attack in Perth and we need to see what wickets are prepared and adjust accordingly. I’ll go back to the nets and practice hard. I’ll do my best.” Warner added.
