Three Members behind the bars for murder of Suresh Raina’s relatives
The accused told the police that they had committed crimes across Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir.
Three members of the gang that murdered Suresh Raina’s family members in Punjab’s Pathankot, during a reported robbery, have been sent behind the bars. On Wednesday, September 16, Chief Minister Capt Amarinder Singh put forth the news and also declared the case as ‘solved’.
Dinkar Gupta, the Punjab DGP, mentioned that the accused were part of the inter-state gang of robber-criminals. 11 other members of the gang has been identified, but they have been on the run. The senior cop said that efforts are being made to catch them as well.
Suresh Raina gets justice
As per reports in NDTV, a Special Investigation Team (SIT), probing the case, received a tip earlier this week that the arrested suspects were kept in slum dwellings near the Pathankot Railway Station. Two wooden sticks, two gold rings and cash worth INR 1,530 were recovered from police raid.
The accused told the police that they had committed crimes across Punjab, Uttar Pradesh and Jammu and Kashmir. The criminals also revealed that they moved from one location to the other by following railway lines and canals.
On the gruesome night, the gang met in Ashok Kumar’s neighbourhood. They travelled in groups of two and three to avoid any sort of suspicion. It was after their first two attempted robberies failed. Five of the accused entered the house and saw three of Raina’s family members sleeping on the mat.
According to DGP Gupta, the accused hit them on the head before barging into the house. Even while escaping, they went out in groups of two and three. Raina lost his uncle (Mr Kumar) and Kaushal Kumar, his cousin, in the attack. His aunt remains in critical condition.
Earlier, Raina backed out from the 2020 Indian Premier League (IPL), citing personal reasons. He was set to play for the MS Dhoni-led Chennai Super Kings (CSK). Thereafter, in a series of tweets, he expressed his anguish.
“What happened to my family is Punjab was beyond horrible. My uncle was slaughtered to death, my bua & both my cousins had severe injuries. Unfortunately, my cousin also passed away last night after battling for life for days,” one of his tweets read.
