Throwback: When MS Dhoni sang his favourite song "Main pal do pal ka shayar hoon" at an Indian Army event
A video of MS Dhoni singing the same song in CSK dressing room had gone viral on August 15.
MS Dhoni last played for India in July 2019 against New Zealand in the World Cup semi-final. Since then, he took a sabbatical from cricket for more than a year and never turned back. His fans still kept on wishing to see him for one last time in Blue Jersey but the man hung his boots from international cricket on August 15.
The former wicket-keeper batsman is known for his calm and composed style and he retired in the same fashion. He chose Instagram as a platform and shared a 4-minute video with snapshots of his entire career. The song in the background was “Main pal do pal ka shayar hoon”. The song actually suited the situation and told us exactly what MS Dhoni had in his mind.
The Ranchi lad is fond of this song for a long time. It was not like the cricketer chose the song instinctively like all his famous and successful decisions on the field. He had sung the same song previously on a public platform as well. During one of the events of the Indian Army, he had also explained the importance of the song for him.
The song is also very relevant if you see my sport, says MS Dhoni
MS Dhoni had said that the song actually tells us how life is if a person is a sportsperson. According to him, one will always be replaced with who will play better than him/her in the same field. The song is relevant because a lot of people will come and perform better and it doesn’t matter if people actually remember or not.
“Kishore Kumar is my favourite but this song was sung by Mukesh Ji. The song is also very relevant if you see my sport. The lyrics – Main Pal Do Pal Ka Shayar Hoon – suggests tomorrow somebody else will turn up who will play better than me, many other people will emerge who will see better than you. It doesn’t matter if somebody remembers you in the future or not.” Dhoni had elaborated.
MS Dhoni holds the rank of a Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army
Soon after the exit of Indian team from the World Cup 2019, MS Dhoni also asked BCCI for a two-month break to serve the Indian army’s Parachute regiment. Dhoni, who holds the rank of a Lieutenant Colonel in the Territorial Army, is widely known for his love for the army. In a recent video that surfaced on twitter, he can be seen singing the same song while wearing the CSK jersey.
