Tim Paine explains why he left Marnus Labuschagne hanging for a high five
Hanuma Vihari was dismissed on 42 by Nathan Lyon while attempting a sweep shot.
All’s not well for Australia. Gone are those days when the baggy greens would enter the field simply to humiliate their opposition and play a supreme brand of cricket. If there’s one thing that has remained, it’s the funny side of the game amongst Australian cricketers, something that was seen when the Australian skipper Tim Paine left newbie Marnus Labuschagne hanging out high and dry for a high five.
It all happened in the 102nd over when Nathan Lyon was bowling and Hanuma Vihari was batting on 42. Vihari tried to sweep the ball, but it caught the edge and was caught by Labuschagne. While there might be some controversies regarding the dismissal, what’s the main attraction point as of now is what happened after the umpire declared Vihari out.
As soon as the catch was taken, loud appeals were heard, quite expectedly. Hardly did the umpire’s finger went up than Marnus Labuschange raised his hand in an attempt to high five his skipper who was standing behind the stumps. Paine, however, failed to notice 24-year-old South African born cricketer and carried his own soft of joyous expressions. The end result? Labuschagne was left out hanging there, with his hands raised up for no good reason.

A Twitter user with the name Chris Hartley was quick to find that out as he tweeted “The other question mark on @Hanumavihari dismissal – did @tdpaine36 leave @marnus3cricket hanging for high five?! @7Cricket @FoxCricket.”
The Australian skipper justified his action by replying to the tweet. “Correct. Didn’t see it though Harts. I would never leave Marnus hanging like that!” This gesture from Paine was appreciated in the social media, as another user wrote “You’re a legend, painey. Class act.”
Big task ahead
Keeping these non-cricketing matters aside, Australia have a big task ahead of them as they are chasing a mammoth total of 622 posted by the Indian team. The men in blue managed to accumulate that gigantic score banking on tons from Cheteshwar Pujara and Rishabh Pant. Though the Aussie openers managed to hang on to the crease, courtesy some poor glovework from Pant, the road won’t be smooth for them on Day 3 of the fourth and final Test.
