Tim Southee played a crucial role in helping New Zealand win the ICC trophy after 21 long years beating India in the inaugural World Test Championship Final last week. Overall in the WTC Cycle too, he was their highest wicket-taker and has troubled even the best batsmen across the world. After winning the trophy for the first time in his career, Southee has now decided to auction his WTC Final jersey.

The jersey is signed by the whole squad picked for the summit clash and all the funds raised through the auction will go to the Beattie family. The 7-year-old girl Hollie Beattie is suffering from a rare and aggressive form of cancer neuroblastoma since July 2018. Despite undergoing treatment for more than two years, Hollie is yet to recover from the disease.

Hollie had to undergo a surgery in September last year when a 3 cm long tumour was found in her brain. The clock has started ticking for her family since then as the treatment needs to be started from a certain period of time after the surgery. While a few treatments can be carried out in New Zealand, some will have to be done at a trial site in Spain and the overall cost of it including the travel expenses of family are going out of hand.

Tim Southee lauds the perseverance of Hollie and her family

Tim Southee took to Instagram to let everyone know about him auctioning the jersey and also penned down an emotional message for Hollie and the Beattie family. He said that he was always finding a way to support the Beattie family and praised the positive attitude and the perseverance of the family during this tough time.

“Hey guys, I am auctioning off one of my shirts from the @icc World Test Championship Final to support @hopeforhollie. All proceeds from the auction will go to the Beattie family. If you’d like to bid on the shirt the auction link is in my bio but you can also find out other ways to support Hollie with the @hopeforhollie account.

“My family first learnt about Hollie’s story a couple of years ago through the cricket community and I have always been struck by the Beattie family’s perseverance, strength and positive attitude. Since hearing that Hollie required more treatment I have been trying to find a way to support in some small way.

“I am hopeful that this shirt can help contribute in someway to the Beattie family’s ongoing medical needs as Hollie continues to fight. As a parent my heart goes out to them as they battle on. The Beattie family’s strength serves as a great reminder that whatever we may go through on the cricket field with success and failure it’s nothing compared to the challenges faced by those suffering with their health like Hollie,” Southee wrote in his post.
