Indian opening batsman Murali Vijay and off-spinner Ravichandran Ashwin are two of the pillar stones of the Indian Test team. Hailing from Tamil Nadu, they both are currently plying their trade for the national side. Now, their state team has named them in the squad for the Ranji Trophy quarter-finals. The premier domestic tournament has entered the knockouts stage and the quarter-final round kicks off on December 23.

Tamil Nadu is scheduled to take of giants Karnataka in the quarter-final game. Ahead of the epic clash, the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association Chief Mr. N Srinivasan had expressed his desire to make R Ashwin and Murali Vijay feature in the fixture. Srinivasan is hoping that Vijay and Ashwin turn up for the important match as they are up against a very strong unit in Karnataka.

The Karnataka Ranji team has been one of the strongest teams in the last few years. No wonder why the TNCA chief is keen on beefing up his side ahead of the clash. Moreover, there are news about two other Indian nationals playing for Karnataka in the upcoming match.

Opener KL Rahul, who recently hit a classy ton at Chennai against England, and Karun Nair might play for Karnataka in the match. “We want them to play and they are both keen to play,” quoted N Srinivasan. In such a situation, the presence of Vijay and Ashwin will not only make the contest an even battle but also keep the audiences engaged in the domestic fixture.

Both players will be involved in the ongoing Test till December 20. They have a 25 day gap before the limited overs series commences. While Vijay is unlikely to be a part of it, Ashwin will be a sure member. Ashwin is due to attend a function in Dubai soon after the Chennai Test concludes.

Srinivasan believes he will be back in due time to play the quarter-finals. Murali Vijay injured his shoulder during the ongoing Test and his involvement remains a doubt. “Ashwin is going to Dubai to attend the inauguration of an academy the day after the Test ends but will be back in time for the Ranji quarterfinal,” said the TNCA Chief.
