TNPL 2022: Fans shout Dinesh Karthik's name during the match, Murali Vijay pleads them to stop

Two of the Indian team’s stalwarts, Murali Vijay and Dinesh Karthik, will always be regarded as icons of the game. Karthik recently made a comeback into the Indian squad and is beginning a new chapter in his journey, whereas Vijay was a mainstay in the Indian Test team for many years and achieved laurels in the longest format of the game.

After hitting a stunning century for his team Ruby Trichy Warriors during the ongoing Tamil Nadu Premier League (TNPL) 2022 season, Vijay has recently grabbed headlines. When Vijay was fielding near the ropes in a recent TNPL match, the fans started chanting Dinesh Karthik’s name which made Vijay uncomfortable.

It is well known that Dinesh Karthik and Murali Vijay share a history, that neither of them wants to remember. Nikita Vanjara, Karthik’s first wife, allegedly had an affair with Vijay and went on to marry him after separating from the wicketkeeper-batter. Karthik then married Dipika Pallikal, one of India’s finest squash players, in 2015.

As soon as the incident’s video appeared on social media, it quickly went viral. The clip shows fans screaming “DK…DK”. But Vijay’s response was the highlight. He turned towards the crowd and urged them humbly to simply stop shouting Karthik’s name as he heard it. He first was seen clapping, but then joined his hands in front of the crowd urging them to stop the act. His gesture was very thoughtful, given the two cricketers’ history.

Dinesh Karthik’s aim is to make it big at the T20 World Cup

After taking a brief break, Murali Vijay returned to the TNPL and hammered a 57-ball century to mark his comeback. As for Karthik, he is back in the blues and is in fantastic shape after a successful IPL season with RCB. Karthik appeared to be losing momentum, but he was able to turn things around with a couple of worthy knocks and is currently in contention to make it to India’s T20 World Cup squad.

Karthik is presently in the West Indies with the Indian T20 team, where they will play five T20 Internationals, three in the Caribbean nation and two in Florida. After the tour of the West Indies, he is expected to travel to Zimbabwe with the Indian contingent. He would therefore have plenty of opportunities to win over the selectors before the World Cup, which is scheduled to begin in October in Australia.
