Tom Moody and Richard Pybus outclassed Ravi Shastri with their presentations
The source also stated that Shastri does not have the technical ability and experience to manage a team at the highest level.
The Indian head coach chapter has a new twist in the story with the addition of a fresh page in it. According to a certain source of the BCCI, the presentations of Richard Pybus and Tom Moody were notably better than that of appointed head coach Ravi Shastri’s. However, Shastri edged past the above mentioned two because of the support of the Present Indian cricketers.
The Cricket Advisory Committee comprised of Sourav Ganguly, Sachin Tendulkar and VVS Laxman were handed over the huge responsibility of selecting the Indian head coach. The three stalwarts of the game chalked out three primary aspects on the basis of which the head coach was to be selected. Those were the technical aspects of cricket, the vision of taking Indian cricket forward and past experience of managing top players.
The main story:
According to spreading reports, Shastri got the better of everyone in the third aspect which led to his appointment. If a source of the BCCI is to be believed Tom Moody and Richard Pybus were absolutely brilliant with their presentations which were way more convincing than that of Shastri’s. Shastri was no match for them when it came to the experience those two had.
“Going by the best person for the job, Moody should have been made Director of overall coaching staff with Pybus as chief coach. But then it was in the hands of these three gentlemen to decide and they picked what they probably thought was best for Team India,” the BCCI source told DNA.
Tom Moody’s bag full of experience is a thing known to everyone as the Australian has been the coach of the Sri Lankan national team and various other domestic teams. He was also the coach of the Sunrisers Hyderabad in their victorious IPL campaign. On the other hand, Pybus has managed the Pakistan team on two previous occasions. Shastri had managed the Indian team for a year before Anil Kumble took over and Shastri developed a wonderful rapport with the players during his tenure.
“It was his ability to lift the morale of the team even during a bad phase that made him popular inside dressing room,” said the official. “More than that, he never interfered in the private life of any player and just limited himself to on-field activities.”
The source also stated that Shastri does not have the technical ability and experience to manage a team at the highest level. “Who doesn’t know that Shastri is not technically equipped to coach at the top level. It was believed that he needs people around him to take care of on-field coaching. And that’s why these names were recommended,” the source said.
The CAC chose legends in the name of Rahul Dravid and Zaheer Khan to assist Shastri as the overseas batting consultant and the bowling coach respectively. However, the 55-year-old Shastri wanted Bharat Arun to be his bowling coach and the Indian players gave him a green signal.
“Even the team players, especially the pacers, told us how comfortable they felt with Arun,” the BCCI official added.
“Dravid’s name, we all understand, came because Shastri had no favourites as far as batting coach was concerned. Moreover, Dravid’s recommendation is only for overseas tours and for a specific purpose of helping young batsmen adapt quickly to challenges there,” the BCCI official said.
