IPL franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) roped in Australia’s veteran cricketer Tom Moody as their Director of Cricket for the 2021 edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Moody was associated with the Orange Army as their coach in 2012 and his maiden stint with the team came in IPL 2013 and took the franchise to new heights.

However, before the 2020 edition, he was replaced by World Cup-winning coach Trevor Bayliss as SRH coach. Meanwhile, the management has again decided to bring Moody into the setup and this time as the Director of Cricket. This information was shared by the Orange Army via their official Twitter handle.

“Announcement. @TomMoodyCricket has been appointed as the Director of Cricket for SunRisers Hyderabad. #OrangeArmy #KeepRising,” SRH tweeted.

Under Tom Moody’s guidance, SRH reached the playoffs in the 2013 edition but failed to lift the cup. However, they finally managed to win their maiden T20 Cup in 2016 by defeating Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the final. The Orange Army is the only team in IPL history to win the prestigious title even after not finishing the league stage as one of the top 2 teams in the points table.

Tom essayed the role of coach for 2016-Champions from 2013 to 2019 and SunRisers made it to the playoffs four more times during this period. As far as his cricket career is concerned, Moody represented Australia in 76 One Day Internationals and 8 Test games. He also has some marvellous numbers to his name in the domestic circuit.

In 300 first-class games, he has amassed a whopping 21,001 runs at an average of 46.3 while scalping 361 wickets. The all-rounder also boasts of having 11,258 runs and 257 wickets in 366 List-A games while playing for Western Australia along with Warwickshire and Worcestershire in England County.

SunRisers Hyderabad experienced a roller-coaster ride in the 13th edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL). Their stint in the league was marred by injuries as a number of players including Bhuvneshwar Kumar, Wriddhiman Saha, Mitchell March and Kane Williamson suffered injuries.

Meanwhile, owing to a brilliant performance towards the fag end of the innings, they managed to qualify for the playoffs with 14 points in their bag from 14 games. However, the team couldn’t lift their second IPL title as they lost to Delhi Capitals in the second Qualifier.
