Top 10 Batsmen with most test runs on winning occasions: Test cricket has witnessed many magnificent innings by great batsmen. The longest format of the game is its most important one as well. Considered the most complete examination of teams’ playing ability and endurance, Test match victories are special and savored for many years by players and fans alike. A contribution in a winning cause can elevate a player’s stature and the most consistent ones are those who went on to become the greats of the game. Legendary names appear in this following list of batsmen with most contributions in winning causes. He was a part of 56 Test wins for India in an illustrious career. He scored 5131 runs at an average of 65.78 including 15 tons and 23 fifties. At Rawalpindi in 2004, in the third and final match of the series against Pakistan, Dravid made a career-best 270 that helped India to win the series 2-1. (Photo Source: AFP) The stylish Sri Lankan remains one his country’s greatest ever cricketers. He was part of 58 Test wins for his team in a wonderful career. He scored 5173 runs at an average of 64.66 including 17 tons and 19 fifties. At Colombo in 2006, in the first of the 2-match series against South Africa, Jayawardene made his career-best 374 and was involved in a world record partnership with Kumar Sangakkara. 8. He was part of 60 Test wins for the Proteas in a long and distinguished career. He scored 5214 runs at an average of 61.34 including 18 tons and 20 fifties with a top score of 259 against England at Lord’s in 2003. This remains the highest score by a visiting batsman at the ‘Home of Cricket’ and the 2nd overall. 7. Justin Langer – 5229 runs: Justin Langer. He was a part of 70 Test wins for the Aussies in which he scored 5529 runs at an average of 48.41 including 15 tons and 19 fifties. This includes his career best of 250 against England at the MCG in 2002. 6. Kumar Sangakkara – 5449 runs: Kumar Sangakkara. At Colombo in 2006 against South Africa, he scored career-best 287; the same match which also witnesses a triple ton from Jayawardene. Sanga was a part of 54 Test wins for the islanders in which he scored 5449 runs at an average of 71.69 including 19 tons and 20 fifties. 5. Sachin Tendulkar – 5946 runs: Sachin Tendulkar. The master was a part of 72 Test match wins for India in which he contributed 5946 runs at an average of 61.93 including 20 centuries and 24 fifties. This includes his career best of 248* against Bangladesh at Dhaka in 2004. In a glittering career spanning more than two decades, the great man achieved many memorable milestones. 4. The left-handed opening partner of Langer featured in 71 Test wins for his team and contributed 6154 runs including 23 tons and 19 fifties at an average of 55.44. This also includes his career best of 380 against Zimbabwe at Perth in 2003. 3. Jacques Kallis – 6379 runs: Jacques Kallis. His ability to bowl fast and take brilliant catches in slips made him the team’s most valuable player. He was a part of 82 Test match wins for SA in which he contributed 6379 runs at an average of 62.53 including 22 centuries and 28 fifties. This includes his career best knock of 224 against Sri Lanka at Cape Town in 2012. 2. Steve Waugh – 6460 runs: Steve Waugh. He featured in 86 wins for his team and contributed 6460 runs at an average of 69.46 including 25 tons and equal number of fifties. His career best is 200 against the West Indies at Jamaica in 1995. This remains the only double hundred of his Test career. 1. Ricky Ponting – 9157 runs: Ricky Ponting. He was a part of 108 Test wins for the Aussies scoring 9157 runs at an average of 59.46. This includes 30 tons and 42 fifties with a career best of 257 against India at the MCG in 2003.
