Top 10 Batsmen with most number of fifty plus scores in T20s

The emergence of various leagues around the world has only popularized cricket for a world of good. With so many matches being played around, the players are getting more experience in the shortest format of the game. While the format is known to be a graveyard of bowlers, it is not an easy job for the batsmen to consistently score runs either. But a few have made a mark for themselves by hitting runs consistently. Scoring a fifty in a 20-over game is definitely a big deal. Here is the list of players who have done it on most occasions. Read on to find out the players who have hit the most number of fifties in T20s. 10. Shoaib Malik – 37: (Photo Source: CLT20/BCCI) The Pakistani middle order batsman has been a consistent performer in the shortest format of the game. Malik, with 233 matches under his name so far, has amassed 5995 runs in the shortest format of the game. He has been phenomenal for his national side as well as for the franchises he has played for. With an average of 37.94 and a top score of 95*, Malik has 37 half centuries to his name. The most prominent teams that he has played for are Barbados Tridents, Comilla Victorians, Delhi Daredevils, Hobart Hurricanes, Karachi Kings and has also led Sialkot Stallions successfully in domestic T20 competition in Pakistan. 9. Lendl Simmons – 37: (Photo Source: Twitter) The West Indian opener was instrumental in giving brisk starts to Mumbai Indians in their victorious IPL campaign in 2015. He has played 168 matches and scored in excess of fifty on 37 occasions. His only ton in the format came for the Mumbai Indians. He has been a globetrotter in T20 cricket and played for Brisbane Heat, Guyana Amazon Warriors, Karachi Kings, Mumbai Indians, Rangpur Riders, Trinidad & Tobago to amass 4674 runs. 8. Shaun Marsh – 37: Shaun Marsh. (© Getty Images) The Australian opener might not have been making the news for his stint in the Australian team, largely due to playing under the shadows of Finch and Warner. But he made his mark in T20 cricket with a spectacular season in the IPL 2008. Having played 129 matches so far, Marsh has scored 4544 runs in T20s. He averages 41.30 in the format, which is highly impressive. He has two centuries with the best of 115 to go with 35 half centuries. 7. Brendon McCullum – 38: Brendon McCullum CSK. (Photo Source: BCCI) Brendon McCullum, the masterclass from New Zealand, has left an imprint on the T20 format with his brutal way of batting. He is the only player to score two centuries in T20Is. In all, he has scored 7 centuries in T20 cricket, the second best in the list. Having played 220 matches, he has scored over 6000 runs at a good average of 32.36. He has been phenomenal at the top of the order for not only New Zealand but also for Chennai Super Kings, Brisbane Heat and Otago Volts. 6. Gautam Gambhir – 39: Gautam Gambhir KKR. (Photo Source: BCCI) The Indian opener might have not made a comeback in the national side since the last couple of years but his contribution in the victorious Indian campaign in the inaugural ICC World T20 cannot be ignored. Gambhir, an elegant left-handed batsman, has played 197 T20s so far and successfully led Kolkata Knight Riders to two championship titles in the IPL. He has scored 4919 runs so far with the best of 93 and has 39 fifties to his name. 5. Virat Kohli – 40: Virat Kohli RCB (Photo Source: BCCI) India’s very own dependable batsman Virat Kohli has been instrumental for the national side in the limited overs. Having played 189 matches, Kohli has scored 5547 runs at an average close to 39 and a total of 40 half-centuries. He also became the first batsman to average above 50 in the International T20 cricket. Playing for the Royal Challengers Banglore in the IPL, he has been phenomenal with the highest score of 99. 4. Rohit Sharma – 40: Indian cricketer Rohit Sharma. He has a T20I ton to his name and he achieved this feat against South Africa at Dharamsala in 2015. With 221 matches under his name, Sharma has scored 5655 runs so far. He has 3 tons to his kitty in addition to 37 fifties in this format of the game. He averages over 32 and can rip apart the bowling singlehandedly on his day. 3. Brad Hodge – 48: Brad Hodge. (© Getty Images) Perhaps one of the most experienced batsmen in T20 cricket, Brad Hodge has represented 18 teams in T20s so far. He has played 256 matches and is just 2 runs short of 7000 runs in T20 cricket. Hodge has two centuries to his name with the best of 106 in T20 cricket. Some of the prominent sides that he has represented thus far are Adelaide Strikers, Melbourne Renegades, Melbourne Stars, Peshawar Zalmi and Rajasthan Royals. 2. David Warner – 51: David Warner SRH. One of the most fearless batsmen in the modern day game, David Warner can take the game away from the opposition in the powerplay itself. Having played 204 T20s, Warner has scored 6078 runs at an average of 34 and the best of 135*. He has 5 centuries to his name to go with 46 fifties. He has an impressive strike rate of 143 in T20s which is destructive on any given day. 1. Chris Gayle – 72: Chris Gayle. With staggering numbers in the shortest format of the game, Gayle is way ahead in the list of most fifties with 72 half centuries in his bag. Having played 244 T20s, he is the leading run scorer of the format with 8839 runs at an average of 43.11. He also holds the record for most T20 tons, 17 in number, with the next best being Brendon McCullum who has 7. In all, 17 centuries and 55 half centuries comprise his 72 fifty plus scores in T20 cricket. He has been phenomenal for the West Indian side, scoring an international T20 ton for them in 2007, 2016 and has been a top force for Royal Challengers Bangalore in the IPL.
