Top 10 highest individual scores in ODI by Captains
7. Ricky Ponting (Australia) – 164 (105 balls 13×4 9×6)
vs South Africa, Johannesburg, 2006
Ricky Ponting’s 164 off 105 balls proved to be the foundation of probably the greatest ODI of cricket history. Australia batted first after winning the toss on a flat Johannesburg pitch and scored a record 434/4 in 50 overs, the first score of 400 runs and over. Michael Hussey (81 off 51) helped Ricky Ponting who hit 9 sixes and 13 fours on his way to his highest ODI total. But South Africa chased down the 434 runs and scored 438/9 thanks to 90 from Graeme Smith and 175 from Herschelle Gibbs.
