In the group stage match between England and South Africa in the ICC World T20 2016, England rose to the occasion at the Wankhede stadium to register the biggest run chase in the history of T20 world cups. South Africa rode on fiery start by their openers – Quinton de Kock (52 off 24 balls) and Hashim Amla (58 off 31 balls). Duminy’s 28-ball 54 and David Miller’s 12-ball 28 provided the late fireworks in the innings as South Africa posted a humongous 229/4 in 20 overs.

England were in no mood to give up though. English openers Jason Roy and Alex Hales started off on an aggressive note. Hales couldn’t make it big but Roy scored 43 off just 16 balls. It was Joe Root’s 44 ball 83 that helped England register a record run chase as they finished on 230/8 with 2 balls to spare. As many as 459 runs were scored in the match.

The win helped England stay alive in the competition as they had lost their previous game to West Indies. England went on to make it to the finals of the tournament. However, they ended up losing to the same side – the West Indies.
