It was originally constructed in the early 1980s and has been much improved over the years. One of the rare cricket grounds at which ODIs have been played without a home country participant (and the only international Stadium in a non-Test playing country). Sharjah is a popular venue attracting good crowds mostly from the India, Pakistan and South Asian population of the United Arab Emirates. It holds a world record of being the first stadium to have hosted 200 ODIs after the match between Pakistan and Sri Lanka in November 2011. Overall, from the period of 1984 to 2014, Sharjah has hosted 218 ODIs.
