Top 10 Teams with Most Wickets in ODI Cricket: The cricket universe has seen some of the best bowlers in world cricket in the 50 over format over the years. Bowlers like Shane Warne, Muttiah Murlitharan, Glen McGrath, Dennis Lillee, Wasim Akram, Malcolm Marshal and Dale Steyn have amazed millions of cricket fans across the world with their incredible skills and top notch performances. Here’s a look at the Top 10 Teams with Most Wickets in ODI Cricket. 10. Bangladesh – 1805 wickets: Bangladesh. They haven’t played as many matches as their other Asian neighbors but they have surprised a few with their accurate bowling at times. Their average of 39.40 is the worst in this list of top 10 teams. Zimbabwe has picked up a wicket every 48.0 balls (Strike rate which is also the worst for the top 10 teams). Zimbabwe lies in the 12th place in the ICC ODI rankings at the moment. 6/19 by Henry Olanga is their best individual performance in an ODI. 8. South Africa – 3803 wickets: South Africa. They have picked up a wicket every 38.5 balls which is the best strike rate among the top 10 teams. Their average of 29.17 is also the second best in this list. No surprises there since South Africa has had bowlers like Shaun Pollock, Makhaya Ntini, Allan Donald and Dale Steyn in their lineup. 7. England – 4235 wickets: England. England players have got a total of 29 5-wicket hauls and 121 times a bowler has picked up 4 wickets for them. 6/31 is the best individual bowling performance by Paul Collingwood in 2005 for England. England bowlers have taken 4235 wickets till now in ODI history. 6. New Zealand – 4343 wickets: New Zealand. The Kiwi’s have played a total of 698 matches from 1973 till now and has give a total of 189 players a chance to don the Black’s in ODI cricket. From being a mediocre team they have now emerged as one of the most competitive team across all the three formats of the game, but is a really challenging unit in 50-overs cricket. 5. They have produced some of the best cricketers of the world and there were many great bowlers among them. West Indian bowlers dominated an entire era of cricket with their fiery, quick and aggressive bowling. They have picked up a total of 4693 wickets in ODIs till now. Their economy rate of 4.40 is the best in the world. The strike rate is also a decent at 41.90. The West Indies have featured a total of 170 players in ODIs till now. 4. On December 8, 2001 Chaminda Vaas created history by picking up 8 wickets in an ODI match. His figures of 8/19 against Zimbabwe are still the best bowling figures in an innings by any bowler in the world. The Lankans also have 47, 5-wicket hauls and 94, 4-wicket hauls in ODIs over the years. This team from the island country has won one 50-overs world cup and has ended up as the runner-up twice. 3. Pakistan – 5548 wickets: Pakistan. They have accumulated 5548 wickets in the 226574 balls bowled in ODIs. Also the Pakistan bowlers have got 66, 5-wicket hauls in this format of the game which is the second best in the world. Their rate of picking wicket every 40.8 balls is an impressive number. 2. India – 5628 wickets: India. India bowlers have bowled a mammoth total of 238861 balls in One-Day Internationals so far. Their bowling has been considered a weak link compared to the batting strength for some time now. And that shows in the statistics as India’s average is just 33.60 which not something which can be rated high. They have 38, 5-wicket hauls in 50-50 cricket which is less in number than other 4 cricket playing nations. 1. Australia – 6007 wickets: Australia. Their average of 28.57 is the best in the world and their economy rate of 4.43 is the second best. A strike rate of 38.6 is also the second best in the world of cricket.
