And with that, the three match T20I series resulted in a stalemate, with both the sides winning a match each with the first T20I being washed out. England will now gear up for their next big series, against arch rivals Australia. The Aussies will play 3 T20Is and as many ODIs against the English side. The kangaroos are a side filled with match winners and this limited-overs series between the two heavyweights promises to be a mouth watering affair. The Aussies, captained by Aaron Finch, will look to topple England in their own den when the limited-overs series gets underway. With that being said, let us take a look at 5 Australian batsmen with the most runs against England in ODI cricket. 5. Aaron Finch Aaron Finch. The big-hitting right-hander has always loved the England bowling attack and has scored 1,253 runs against them. He averages a healthy 50.12 against the English side and has also scored as many as 7 hundreds against them. Out of the many three-figure scores that the Aussie notched up against England, his 135 at the iconic Melbourne Cricket Ground in the 2015 World Cup definitely tops the list. In a pressure encounter, Finch ripped apart the England bowling attack in his 128-ball-stay to enable Australia to defeat their opposition by a massive margin of 111 runs. He also scored 9 fifties against England in ODI cricket. Border’s innings of 91 in the Benson and Hedges Cup in the year 1987 will be remembered by Australian fans with a great sense of nostalgia. In a 122-ball epic, Border steadied the Australian innings, and dissected the England bowling attack with methodical brilliance. Another special from the willow of Clarke against England came at the Kennington Oval in 2010. In a 106-ball stay, Clarke scored a sedate 99* to enable his side to wallop the opposition by 78 runs. Clarke scored 7,981 runs for the Kangaroos in ODI cricket and retired from the game in the year 2015, after leading Australia to the World Cup title. 1. Ricky Ponting Ricky Ponting pull. In a career that spanned 17 years, the batting maestro scored 13,704 runs, including 30 centuries and 82 half centuries. In fact, Ponting is the only Australian batsman to have crossed the 10,000-run-mark in ODI cricket. Against England, Ponting featured in 38 innings and scored 1,598 runs at an average of 48.42. The batting icon also scored 5 hundreds and 8 fifties against the England bowling attack. Ponting’s best performance against England came in the year 2009 at Trent Bridge. With Australia chasing a target of 300 for victory, Ponting scored a belligerent 126, and acted as the fulcrum of the Aussie batting lineup. His stunning knock enabled Australia to beat England by 4 wickets. Ponting walked away from ODI cricket in the year 2012. Even though he was not at his best in the last stages of his career, Ponting will always be remembered for the grace and panache with which he played the game.
