Top 5 fastest deliveries by Indian pacers
The definition of pace bowling has changed in India over the last few years.
1. Javagal Srinath, 1996-97 SA tour – 157 kmph
The right-arm fast-medium bowler, hailing from Karnataka, Javagal Srinath was the only Indian bowler who did justice to the term fast-bowling in the 1990s. He had succeeded World Cup-winning captain Kapil Dev as India’s premier pace weapon in 1990s and spearheaded the pace attack of Men in Blue throughout the decade.
The Mysore Express holds the record of bowling the fastest delivery ever by an Indian pacer. Srinath had ripped the batting line-up of visiting South Africa in 1996-97. During a game in 1997 against SA, he clocked one of the deliveries at 157 kmph, the fastest by any Indian till date.
Apart from this, Srinath is the only bowler in Indian history to have 300 scalps in One Day Internationals under his belt. The legendary India pacer played 67 Tests and 229 ODIs between 1991 and 2003 and picked 236 and 315 wickets respectively.
