The Associate nations often strike the headlines with their one-odd wins in the big ICC events. But little do we know or notice the big performances by the Associate players. Their knocks, despite winning games for their teams, often go unnoticed just for the reason that they do not have huge fan base as the big Test playing nations. The associate players are equally capable of scoring big when it matters, and they have shown it time and again; sometimes against the other minnow nations and sometimes against the big ten. Here are the top 5 highest individual scores by Associate players in ODI history. Read on to find out who tops the list. 5. Kevin O’ Brien – 142 Vs Kenya Ireland cricketer Kevin O’Brien. He achieved this feat in the ICC World Cup 2011, when he scored a 50 ball century against England to win a historic game for his side. But his highest ODI score remains to be his first ODI century that came against Kenya in 2007. He scored 142 off 125 balls to register his maiden ton. He has a liking for the Kenyan bowlers. A year later, he scored a brisk 83 off 52 against the same opposition, which remains to be another memorable innings by the Irishman. 4. Kennedy Otieno – 144 Vs Bangladesh Kenyan wicket keeper Kennedy Otieno scored 144 against Bangladesh in 1997. (Photo Source: Getty Images) The former Kenyan wicket-keeper and one of the most prominent faces of Kenyan Cricket, Kennedy Otieno struck a brilliant 144 off 146 balls against Bangladesh at Nairobi in 1997 to take Kenya’s total to 347/3 in 50 overs. He put on 225 runs with D Chudasama for the first wicket, which is a record for associate nations, and hit 12 boundaries and a six in his innings. Bangladesh in response were bowled out for 197 giving Kenya a thumping win by 150 runs. Otieno’s score of 144 remained to be the top score among the players of non-Test playing nations for over a decade. 3. Kyle Coetzer – 156 Vs Bangladesh (Photo Source: ICC) The Scotland opener hammered a brutal 156 off 134 balls against Bangladesh in the ICC World Cup 2015 to a register a record for himself, the highest individual score by an associate player in the World Cups. Coetzer’s 156 propelled the Scots to a 318/8 in 50 overs. Coetzer hit 17 fours and 4 towering sixes during his innings with a strike rate of 116.41. But his heroics went in vain as Bangladesh chased down the score with 6 wickets in hand and 11 balls to spare. He was, however, named the Man of the Match for his beautiful innings of 156. 2. Calum MacLeod – 175 Vs Canada Calum Macleod of Scotland. He became the second highest scorer among the associate players in the process. The match was special for the reason that it was a World Cup qualifier game being played at a neutral venue, Christchurch. MacLeod, who opened the innings, hit 14 fours and 5 maximums during his innings to take the Scottish total to 341/9 in 50 overs. In reply, Canada were bowled out for 171 in 39.2 overs and Scotland registered an emphatic win by 170 runs. 1. Paul Stirling – 177 Vs Canada Ireland cricketer Paul Stirling. He went on to score a historic ton against Canada in 2011 when he was 20 years of age. his capabilities are largely known as a hard-hitting opening batsman. The young man hit 21 boundaries and 5 sixes in the innings to notch up his maiden ton and beat Kevin O’Brien’s previous Irish best of 142. The opener took 134 balls to post his individual best of 177. His knock helped Ireland post 325/8, in reply to which Canada succumbed to a low score of 233. All stats updated till 19th Jan 2016.
