Imran Khan led Pakistan in 3 editions of the World cup from 1983 to 1992. In 1992, he came out of retirement at the age of 40 years to fulfil his dream of lifting the World Cup before finally bidding goodbye to his playing career.
He made good on that promise and won the World cup in 1992 beating England in the final. He had earlier led Pakistan to semi-final in the 1987 World cup also, but they were beaten by Australia who eventually won the World cup in 1987.
Imran Khan brought together a team with different personalities and egos and showed confidence in them, encouraging them to perform to their full potential. For e.g. He asked Wasim Akram to just bowl fast in the 1992 World cup and not to worry about no balls and extra runs. He wanted him to pick wickets and gave him full backing to do so.
