The Champions Trophy 2000 was supported to be a sumptuous affair between cricketing neighbours, India and Sri Lanka. However, it proved to be a dull one. In perhaps one of the most one-sided games in the history of the game, Sri Lanka defeated India by 254 runs.

Jayasuriya led the charge for Sri Lanka with a magnificent 189, as Sri Lanka set a massive target of 300 for India to fetch. Making a mockery of the chase, India slithered to 54 all out. Vaas and Muralitharan took 8 Indian wickets as India recorded the worst total in their history of international cricket.
