There are so many gigantic hitters of the cricket ball who are playing the game currently and are capable of hitting the ball out of the ground on frequent occasions. The art of hitting sixes has been specialised by some as the batsman needs to time the ball along with the power to clear the fences comfortably. The batsmen like Chris Gayle, Yuvraj Singh, Chris Lynn among many others possesses the ability to hit powerful sixes out of the ground. Yuvraj has even hit Stuart Broad out of the ground on six back to back deliveries in the inaugural edition of World T20 which had set the stage ablaze for the then newest format of the game. Simon O’ Donnell: 122 metres Simon O’ Donnell, the all-rounder from Victoria, had smashed a 122 metre six over long-off against New South Wales off the bowling of Greg Matthews during the Sheffield Shield in 1993. Simon went on to represent Australia in 6 Tests and 87 One-Day Internationals contributing with both bat and ball. He was the member of the team which won the World Cup in 1987. Interestingly, he had ended his football career to play cricket and became one of the finest all-rounders for Australia. 5. Thisara Perera: 123 metres This monster hit of Thisara Perera was the winning hit for Sri Lanka in a T20 International against Australia in their own den. The match was held in Perth at the iconic WACA stadium when Perera got better of the leg-spinner Steve Smith in 2010. The good length ball was hit ferociously by the batsmen to deep mid-wicket which also deep into the stands. It was the 17th over of the match as Sri Lanka needed only 5 runs for the victory and Perera finished the game with a maximum. 4. Albie Morkel: 124 metres Pragyan Ojha was in the firing line this time around when Albie Morkel of South Africa smashed him for 124 metre long maximum. Chennai Super Kings were up against the Deccan Chargers in the inaugural season of the Indian Premier league (IPL). Ojha bowled a flighted delivery in the 17th over and the left-hander was ready to pounce on it as he slogged the ball over mid-wicket region. It went out of the ground as the umpires had to ask for a new ball for the play to resume. 3. Martin Guptill: 127 metres Martin Guptill is one of the fiercest hitters of the ball in world cricket and it is no surprise that he features in this list. South Africa had toured New Zealand and the opener managed to hit a 127 metre long six in a T20 International off the bowling of Lonwabo Tsotsobe. It was a pitched up delivery from the bowler and Guptill took full toll of it as it was in his hitting zone. The batsman had hit the ball so hardly that it hit the roof of the stadium and came down. New Zealand were chasing 148 runs in that game and the right-hander found his groove at the right time. 2. Aiden Blizzard: 130 metres Aiden Blizzard has managed to hit the second longest six in the cricket history against Western Australia while playing for Victoria. It was the final of the Big Bash T20 tournament which was then the domestic tournament in Australia. The left-arm bowler DJ McLauchlan bowled the short ball and the batsman played a stylish pull shot with the breeze to send it out of the WACA in Perth. Eventually the ball ended up in the car park and was tipped as one of the biggest sixes ever in cricket. 1. Brett Lee: 143 metres Surprisingly, the bowler from Australia Brett lee tops the list of longest sixes ever hit in the history of cricket. In 2005, during the first Test between Australia and West Indies in Brisbane at the Gabba, Lee picked the bones out of a pitched up delivery from Daren Powell. The ball went very far and ended up going into the practice nets at the back of the Stadium. Even Lee was left overawed with the shot and kept on smiling with his partner Nathan Bracken at the other end.
