He said that the Australian bowlers are one of the best in the world and the two have shown signs of improvement thus warranting more opportunities in the future.
After poor outings in the Ashes series, English coach Trevor Bayliss has come out in defence of opener Mark Stoneman and James Vince and said that the two deserves more chances in order to prove their mettle in the longer format of the game. England after the ODI and T20I series in Australia are set to travel to New Zealand for the Test series.
After the 4-0 drubbing in the hands of the Australians, the whole English side was on the receiving end as the critics went after them heavily. Stoneman started his Ashes campaign on a positive note with a half-century on the day of 1st Test at Gabba. He was involved with over a century-run stand with Vince after the experienced Alastair Cook departed early.
But after their success in the first Test, the duo could manage to go past 50 only once in the remainder of the series as England were tormented by the Aussie pace attack as well as the ever inspired Nathan Lyon.
They both deserve couple of more chances to prove themselves
Bayliss felt that both Stoneman and Vince deserves a couple of more games to show what they have in them to succeed in the whites. “Personally I think people like Stoneman and Vince probably get another couple of games to show us what they’ve got,” said the English coach.
He said that the Australian bowlers are one of the best in the world and the two have shown signs of improvement thus warranting more opportunities in the future.
“I think at times during this series, against probably close to the best bowling attack in the world in their home conditions, they have shown they can play a bit. At the top level, it is about making big scores, not fifties, twenties and thirties but they have shown enough that they should get another couple of games,” added 55-year-old Bayliss.
