'You are a true gentleman'- Sachin Tendulkar to Brendon McCullum on the latter's 37th birthday
Sachin uploaded a picture on Twitter and praised him.
Brendon McCullum, the former New Zealand cricketer, is arguably one of the legendary cricketers the country has ever produced. The swashbuckling personality made his debut against Australia in an ODI at Sydney Cricket Ground in 2002. He didn’t quite flourish immediately, but gradually made his mark and eventually ended his career at his peak in all three departments.
The Otago-born wicketkeeper-batsman hogged the limelight when he churned out a herculean knock of 158 runs from 73 balls in the inaugural edition of the Indian Premier League (IPL), representing Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR). Thereafter his performances for the Black Caps also started to improve. He became the first batsmen to hit two centuries in international T20s.
Back in 2012, he took over the national team’s captaincy from Ross Taylor under pretty controversial circumstances. He didn’t make an immediate impact and took almost a year to guide the Kiwis to a series win against the Windies in December 2013. A couple of months later, the veteran became the first New Zealander to score a triple century in Test cricket against India.
Sachin all praises for Baz
McCullum also captained the team in the 2015 Cricket World Cup in Down Under. He trod the attacking approach, both while batting and captaining the team. McCullum also led the team to their maiden final in the history of the mega-event. He also boasts of playing 101 Tests in a row, the most by a Kiwi. He had saved his best for his farewell Test against Australia in Christchurch.
He scored the fastest century in the format off 54 balls to bid adieu to international cricket. McCullum wasn’t an epitome of perfection, yet would be remembered as someone, who changed the face of New Zealand cricket. He is celebrating his 37th birthday and wishes have poured in for him from every nook and corner of the cricketing fraternity.
In the meantime, Sachin Tendulkar, the former Indian cricketer, also wished Baz on the auspicious occasion by posting a picture on Twitter. Moreover, he hailed him as a gentleman. He captioned the picture and wrote, “Happy Birthday, @bazmccullum! You’ve not only been a fierce competitor, but also a true gentleman. Wishing you a great year ahead.”
