India’s middle-order batsman Hanuma Vihari had produced a stunning show in the third Border-Gavaskar Test at Sydney Cricket Ground by playing a sublime knock of 23 runs off 161 deliveries. He along with spinner Ravichandran Ashwin survived 259 balls on the Day 5 of THE Sydney Test, helping India draw an almost lost game.

One noteworthy point here is that Vihari had suffered a hamstring injury while batting and was finding it even difficult to walk without limping. Thus, the batsman was widely hailed by many veteran cricketers, cricket analysts and pundits along with fans from all across the globe for his determination and dedication towards Team India.

However, there was a small section of Indian fans who clearly despised Vihari’s innings of 23 runs as they believed that he was responsible for India, not managing a victory. Notable political leader and singer, Babul Supriyo was one among such fans as he took to his official Twitter handle to express his frustration and slam Hanuma for his one of the slowest innings.

Fans blast Babul Supriyo on Twitter for criticising Hanuma Vihari

The elected Member of Parliament, Supriyo, tweeted, “Playing 109 balls to score 7! That is atrocious to say the least•Hanuma Bihari has not only killed any Chance for India to achieve a historic win but has also murdered Cricket.. not keeping win an option, even if remotely, is criminal. PS: I know that I know nothing abt cricket.”

The words of criticism by Babul Supriyo for Hanuma Vihari have created an uproar on Twitter as the ardent cricket fans bashed the politician for knowing nothing about the game of cricket and yet commentating and making fun of the player who did everything he could to save the game for India despite suffering from unbearable pain.

Hanuma also took note of this tweet by Supriyo two days later and his reaction won many hearts on the internet. Though the politician had said offending words about the batsman, Vihari just corrected Supriyo for making an error of getting his name wrong. The MP had written the cricketer’s name as ‘Bihari’ instead of ‘Vihari.’

Seeing the classy reply of Hanuma, the fans widely hailed him on microblogging site and termed him as a modern-day hero.
