Twitter Reactions: England collapse followed by a Steve Smith show keeps Australia on top
Twitterati had a great time lauding Jonny Bairstow, trolling Moeen Ali, praising Steve Smith and trolling Mitchell Marsh.
Resuming from their overnight score of 305/4, England continued to pile up runs in the first hour of the morning session. Jonny Bairstow went on to register his fourth century in Tests. Both him and Dawid Malan continued from where they left last night.
After drinks, the 237-run stand finally came to an end with Nathan Lyon getting the breakthrough. Malan’s wicket triggered a collapse in the English batting ranks. Moeen Ali was dismissed soon for a duck by Pat Cummins. Bairstow was bowled by a wonderful Mitchell Starc delivery. It knocked over the middle stump providing a spectacle for the viewers.
The tailenders couldn’t do much as England were all out for a total of 403. They lost their last 6 wickets for just 35 runs. For Australia, Starc was the pick amongst the bowlers. He grabbed four wickets. Josh Hazlewood got three wickets as well. Lyon got the lone but most important wicket of Malan which triggered to a collapse. As for Cummins, he too managed to get a couple of wickets.
While Cameron Bancroft and David Warner were off to a good start, both failed to convert it. Pacer Craig Overton had both of them back to the pavilion. Usman Khawaja who came in at No.3 scored a fantastic fifty before getting trapped in front of the stumps by Chris Woakes.
However, it was Steve Smith’s fluent batting that had everyone awestruck. The English bowlers were completely at mercy as the Aussie skipper seemed impossible to get out. He ended up slamming a stupendous 92* as Australia were 203/3 at stumps on Day 2. Shaun Marsh was not out on 7*.
Twitter was filled with splendid reactions from today’s action at the WACA. Right from lauding Jonny Bairstow to trolling Moeen Ali, admiring Smith to trolling Mitchell Marsh.
