Twitter applauds Shikhar Dhawan as he roars back to form with a scintillating ton
He also became the second fastest Indian to reach 14 ODI centuries.
Shikhar Dhawan in the limited-overs format is a completely different player. Give him the favourable conditions and he will pummel the opposition at will. The same happened in Dubai as he raced his way to a scintillating century against Hong Kong to start the Asia Cup on a high. A lot was expected of his opening partner Rohit Sharma but Dhawan rose to the occasion and made up for his failure.
The questions were raised over his mindset after back-to-back failures in the recently concluded Test series against England. But the flamboyant left-hander didn’t let that form creep into his limited-overs prowess with the bat. He looked in good touch from the word go today and while Rohit was taking on the bowling attack in the powerplay overs. Even after his wicket fell, Dhawan didn’t lose his cool and got his eye in to open up later.
Gabbar announces his arrival
With the slow pitch on offer in Dubai and less help for the fast bowlers, Shikhar Dhawan’s eyes lit up big time. He understood that this is an excellent opportunity for him to get his confidence back ahead of the marquee clash against the arch-rivals Pakistan. As the fast bowlers failed to make early inroads, the Hong Kong skipper Anshuman Rath introduced the spinners into the attack.
But that was to no avail as Dhawan brought the late-cuts to the fore and eked out runs smartly as he normally does. The small crowd also witnessed his swag as he batted without helmet despite the fact that the medium pacers were bowling for the major part of the innings from one end. They also tried to unsettle him by bowling bouncers. However, the southpaw was up to the task and pulled handsomely on every occasion.
Eventually, Dhawan reached his 14th ODI century in the 36th over and is now looking even more dangerous. Twitterati was thrilled to see Gabbar return to form and applauded him for his knock while hoping that he will continue to play in the same way against Pakistan.
