Twitter bashes Virat Kohli after he declared India’s innings at 443 in Melbourne
Australia had to play six overs on the day.
India, captained by Virat Kohli, ended the opening Day of the Boxing Day Test against Australia at 215/2 and were in a dominating position. Even on the second day, they dominated and are currently trailing by 435 runs with the Aussie opening batsmen- Marcus Harris and Aaron Finch- scoring eight runs in six overs. Kohli and Pujara were the overnight batsmen from the first day.
Pujara and Kohli frustrate Aussies
Both carried over the good work and scored 62 runs in the pre-lunch session in 28 overs. They didn’t take any undue risks by any means and made sure that they didn’t allow Australia to get a foothold back into the match. Unfortunately, both couldn’t carry on and were dismissed in the second session. The Saurashtra batsman, Pujara, went on to notch his 17th Test century off 280 balls.
Right-arm speedster Pat Cummins rattled his woodwork. After a few overs, left-arm seamer Mitchell Starc removed Kohli, who could score 82 runs from 204 balls with the help of nine boundaries. The Delhi-born batsman went for an upper cut and timed the ball pretty well. But the leather traced down the throat of Aaron Finch, who didn’t make any mistake in grasping the ball at third man.
Kohli takes the bold move
Thereafter, Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya carried the visiting team to Tea without any hiccup. Rohit went on to score a well-compiled half-century and eventually remained not out. Rahane looked determined during his 76-ball 34 and he fell prey to off-spinner Nathan Lyon. After his dismissal, Pant joined Rohit and scored 39 runs from 76 balls with three fours. Starc dismissed him in the 169th over.
Following Ravindra Jadeja’s dismissal off Josh Hazlewood, Kohli decided to declare the innings at 443/7. In the meantime, Twitter is a bit agitated by Kohli’s decision. The users felt that he should’ve allowed Rohit to get an overseas century. Subsequently, they bashed the 30-year-old.
