Twitter erupts as Virat Kohli notches his maiden Test ton in England
Kohli's previous top score in Tests in England was 39.
Virat Kohli has been one of India’s most skilled batsman in all formats of cricket. While the batsman has a plethora of records under his belt in all the formats of the game, his Test record in England isn’t something overwhelming by any means. Back in 2014 when India toured the nation, Kohli could only manage 134 runs in five matches at an abysmal average of 13.40.
After four years, India are again playing a five-match Test series against the Brits and this time around he would definitely have wished to improve his past records on English soil. The opening Test between India and England is currently underway and the Indian captain came to bat after Murali Vijay was dismissed by Sam Curran with the score at 50 in the 14th over.
Virat marches on to 22nd Test century
He had to strive for his runs courtesy of some immaculate display of line and lengths by the English bowlers. While he stayed put in his position in the middle, the other batsmen kept perishing in quick succession. The likes of Ajinkya Rahane and Hardik Pandya tried to stave off the English attack, but apart from that, there wasn’t any semblance of support for Kohli from the other end.
He didn’t panic and kept milking the bowlers without much difficulty. When India lost their ninth wicket to Adil Rashid in the form of Ishant Sharma, Kohli was on 97 runs and had every chance of remaining stranded at the other end. In the next over, Stokes kept him quiet for the first four deliveries. Kohli didn’t let the pressure get the better of him.
In the penultimate delivery of the 65th over. Stokes dished out a short and wide delivery and Kohli smacked the leather to the point boundary to bring up his 22nd century in Test cricket. After accomplishing the ton, he pulled out his engagement ring and kissed it. In the meantime, Twitterati was all praises for the Delhi-born batsman
