The fate of India’s Test series against England has already been sealed with the Three Lion’s resounding 60-run victory in the previous match at The Ageas Bowl in Southampton. The upcoming encounter is scheduled to be played at Kennington Oval in London and won’t have any consequence as far as the eventual result of the five-match series is concerned.

In the meantime, the Indians have decided to give Hanuma Vihari an opportunity in the match. He has churned out some impressive knocks at the domestic circuit and the selectors didn’t overlook his performance. Subsequently, he was drafted in the national squad for the final two matches. Albeit he was benched for the fourth Test, he has finally got his chance.

Karun Nair overlooked once again

Meanwhile, Karun Nair, who made his debut back in 2016 against England and scored a superlative triple century, didn’t get even a single game in the ongoing red-ball fixtures. Nair has played six matches in which he scored 374 runs at an average of 62.33. Nevertheless, following his heroics in Mohali, he couldn’t quite replicate his form in the next few matches.

Subsequently, he was benched and could only make a comeback in the squad during India’s historic Test against Afghanistan at M Chinnaswamy Stadium in Bangalore. Unfortunately, he couldn’t make the playing eleven. India next play the Windies in October and November, and it will be interesting to see whether he makes the cut in that series or not.

As far as the ongoing Test is concerned, India have drafted in all-rounder Ravindra Jadeja in place of Ravichandran Ashwin, who has been suffering from a stiff hip ever since the third Test at Trent Bridge in Nottingham. For the time being, the supporters aren’t happy that Karun Nair has been benched yet another time.
