Young Pakistani cricketer Babar Azam has emerged as the batting mainstay of the national side in the recent times. He is already being tipped as the next big thing in the Pakistan cricket. In the ongoing T20I against the Windies, the youngster proved the same to a great extent yet again. He added yet another feather to his illustrious hat that he has decorated in such a short time.
Azam scored his maiden T20I to light up the occasion at the National Stadium in Karachi during the second T20I of the three-match series. Coming to the game, the hosts were high on confidence after their thumping 143 runs win in the first T20I. They decided to replicate their heroics in the second game as well. After having won the toss, they went ahead with the decision to bat first.
In walked Fakhar Zaman and Babar Azam to open the innings. Zaman perished cheaply on 6 early on in the match. Azam then found a very able partner in Hussain Talat. What followed was an absolute massacre of bowlers. The strange part, though, was the fact that the run rate kept on increasing despite no flashy shots around. Such is the influence of a player like Babar, who gets the boundaries with sheer placement and timing.
Both batsmen reached their individual fifties to put Pakistan in firm command of the game. While Hussain Talat perished on 63, Babar was just not done yet. He decided to shift gears and stepped on the accelerator. Azam built his innings like a crescendo that just kept going better as the innings progressed. The way he batted, and the way he built his innings, Babar Azam certainly deserved a ton.
However, ended up falling 3 runs short of his maiden T20I ton. He needed 11 runs to get in the final over for the milestone. A couple and a boundary helped him inch closer. With two balls left, he needed four more to get. A single was denied on the penultimate delivery but Azam failed to hit a four on the final ball to be left stranded on 97. His knock came off 58 deliveries with 13 fours and a maximum.

Babar Azam as opener, Sarfaraz at number 4 & Ahmed Shehzad out of the team is the perfect batting combination.

Babar Azam's inability to open his shoulders and hit big will keep hitting himself hard. Though a wonderful player, he needs to work it out
