Ishant Sharma has been no less than phenomenal in the ongoing Test match between England and India at Edgbaston in Birmingham. He bowled with fire in the first innings, but without much luck and ended with figures of 17-1-46-1. He could only pick the wicket of Adil Rashid. The Delhi-born fast-bowler came into his own in the second innings and spewed venom right from the word go.
He started with the wicket of Dawid Malan when he dished out a peach of a delivery that found the outside edge of the willow. Ajinkya Rahane didn’t make any mistake in the slips. A couple of overs later, he accounted for Jonny Bairstow’s wicket. Shikhar Dhawan took a score in the slip cordon to give Ishant his second wicket. Ben Stokes became the seamer’s third victim in the same over.
Ishant rips England apart
Jos Buttler could make no impact as Ishant notched his third wicket of the very over. Buttler tried to rock back on to the backfoot and tried to punch the leather. Unfortunately, he couldn’t time the delivery and subsequently edged the same into the palms of Dinesh Karthik, who didn’t have an overwhelming outing with the wicketkeeping gloves behind the wicket.
England with only a lead of 100 runs were in dire straits as Ishant inflicted mayhem in their batting order with his magnificent display of fast-bowling. Sam Curran and Stuart Broad are no mugs with the willow and they put on a partnership of 41 runs from 44 balls. The stand threatened to take the match away from the visiting team, but Ishant put his hand up and nipped out Broad.
The pacer dished out a full-length delivery and the batter tentatively poked at the delivery. He nicked the leather into the hands of Dhawan, who broke the ominous stand. Moreover, he also accomplished a five-wicket-haul. He finished with stupendous numbers of 13-0-51-2. In the meantime, Twitter heaped praises on the 29-year-old lanky speedster.

Happy to see #IshantSharma taking a fiver, I was sick of hearing about him only as workhorse-hit-the-deck hard bowler. #INDvsENG

Ishant Sharma is the perfect example for ‘playing to your strengths.’ Doesn’t get sold in IPL but the king in foreign pitches.

Not surprised that Ishant Sharma is India's prime wicket-taker when it mattered the most. The lad has put in some hard yards and the Sussex stint also played a decisive role. #ENGvIND

After missing out in the IPL, it was surely a great decision by Ishant Sharma to play in the county matches for Sussex and do well there
It is reflecting in his ability to access and exploit the English condition beautifully. Well bowled @ImIshant #INDvsENG #ENGvIND @SussexCCC

Before the series, had predicted Ishant Sharma to be the leading wicket taker for India in this series.
Not a bad start at all.
