Twitter Reaction: Twitterati ridicules Bangladesh after horror show against India
Bangladesh suffered a humiliating 240-run defeat at the hands of India.
Bangladesh surprised everyone after they defeated New Zealand in an ODI a few days ago to gain the 6th position in ODI Team Rankings. They are placed ahead of bigger teams like West Indies and Pakistan. After the spirited show in the Tri-series, fans expected the Bangladesh team to punch above their weight in the ICC Champions Trophy 2017.
They performed well in the first warm-up game against Pakistan where the lost the match by a narrow margin. But Tuesday was a day of humiliation for their fans as the team failed to offer any resilience whatsoever. Bangladesh team management rested a few important members for the warm-up game, including captain Mashrafe Mortaza.
Being asked to bat first Team India, got off to a flyer. But after Rohit Sharma and Ajinkya Rahane’s dismissal things slowed down as Shikhar Dhawan and Dinesh Karthik stabilised the innings. Just like the imitation of the last Champions Trophy, Karthik played a good hand of 94 runs in the warm-up game. Dhawan offered steady support of 60 runs. Hardik Pandya stayed till the end to play a fiery inning of 80 runs in 54 balls.
After 50 overs, India reached 324 runs for the loss of 7 wickets. Skipper Virat Kohli and MS Dhoni didn’t bat along with Yuvraj Singh. 325 is a tough target to reach against India’s formidable bowling line-up, but Bangladeshi batters fell like nine pins.
No batsman could offer a steady resilience as their innings crumbled like a tin can. Mehedi Hasan was the highest run-getter for Bangladesh, who managed to score 24 runs. He was the only batsman to score over 20 runs while wicketkeeper Mushfiqur Rahim and left-arm spinner Sunzamul Islam were the other two batsmen to reach double figures.
Bhuvneshwar Kumar and Umesh Yadav were the pick of bowlers for India as they picked up three wickets each. Mohammed Shami, Jasprit Bumrah, Pandya and Ravi Ashwin got one wicket each as Bangladesh could reach just 84 runs, thereby falling 240 runs short of the target.
