Twitter Reactions: A 20-run partnership for the last wicket helps Islamabad United get over the line
Nine runs were required in the last over with only 1 wicket to spare.
The 7th game of the fifth edition of the PSL was by far the most exciting one. In a match full of twists and turns, it was the Islamabad United that miraculously got over the line. An extraordinary fifty from skipper Shadab Khan and the contributions from the other batsmen is one side of the coin. The best part of the match, however, was the 10th wicket partnership between Mohammad Musa and Ahmed Safi Abdullah. The Lahore Qalandars were all set to win this game before this duo turned the game on its head.
It seems ridiculous how they couldn’t defend this game as the last batting pair required to score over six runs an over. In this high-scoring, thrilling fixture, the Qalandars were asked to bat first. Mohammad Hafeez was the star with the bat and the first innings of the game was all about him.
The way he applied himself and played even though he kept losing partners at the other end was a delight to watch. He missed out on a well-deserved century and remained unbeaten on 98 off 57 deliveries. 33 runs from Fakhar Zaman and 19 from David Wiese were the other important contributions as the side got to 182/6. Faheem Ashraf and Shadab Khan picked up two wickets each.
Shadab Khan impresses with the bat as well
Islamabad United lost both its openers early. However, Dawid Malan and Shadab Khan consolidated for the early loss of wickets. The left-hander took his time and scored a run-a-ball 22. The skipper, meanwhile, raced his way to 52 from 29 balls. Colin Ingram and Asif Ali looked good during quickfire knocks of 30 and 18 runs respectively. But they fell in quick successions. From 135/5, the team soon collapsed to 163/9 with 20 runs required in the last 17 balls.
Just one wicket was left and the pressure was clearly on. But Mohammad Musa – the No.11 batsman delivered. He smashed Shaheen Afridi for a couple of fours as soon as he walked out. Then, in the last over, he even smashed a six off the first ball when 9 runs were required. Musa remained unbeaten on 17 off 11 as his team won with one ball and one wicket to spare.
