Tamil Nadu skipper Abhinav Mukund has been recalled to the Indian squad for the one-off Test against Bangladesh and he will be making a return to the national squad after 6 long years. Team India selectors met in Mumbai today to announce the 16 member squad for the solitary against Bangladesh starting on February 9 at the Rajiv Gandhi Stadium in Hyderabad. The selectors stuck to the more or less same team squad which thrashed New Zealand 3-0 and England 4-0 very recently.
Bangladesh has been playing some resilient cricket off late even in the longest format and their recent victory against the mighty Englishmen is a proof of their drastic improvement especially in the Test circuit. Despite losing the Test series to New Zealand 0-2, they had their moments throughout. Former captain Shakib-al-Hasan scored a magnificent double ton in the 2nd Test to take Bangladesh to 595 in their first essay but despite their monumental effort, they collapsed horribly in the 2nd innings thus giving New Zealand an exceptional come from behind victory.
Wriddhiman Saha who was out of the team for the last 3 Tests against England made an expected return as Virat Kohli and chief selector MSK Prasad has mentioned earlier that Saha remains their first choice keeper despite Parthiv Patel’s impressive performance against England. The middle order looks quite settled with the likes of Cheteshwar Pujara and Virat Kohli. Karun Nair who struck a mind-boggling triple century against England will hope to replicate some of his heroics against the Bangla Tigers.
Hardik Pandya who is yet to make his Test debut is also in the squad as a seam bowling all-rounder while the team management has also added Mishra. Mukund will be the reserve opener behind Murali Vijay and Lokesh Rahul. The decision of a picking a 16 members squad for a one-off Test in home looks pretty surprising but given the injuries the team has gone through in the recent past, it might not be a bad idea.

Good to see stability in the Indian team and a predictable selection. Reward for Abhinav Mukund and justified return for @Wriddhipops

Abhinav Mukund might have been selected over Panchal becuase he bats left handed. He has the best record over the last 3 years among LHB's.

Blow to Shikhar Dhawan. But Abhinav Mukund has scored runs aplenty this season and difficult to ignore

Parthiv Patel not selected for #IndvsBan inspite of great performance
Hardik Patel should drop his surname for One Day— Anilbhai Purohit (@anilpurohi) January 31, 2017
You can see the depth in Indian cricket with the fact that @parthiv9 could come up and play so easily.
— Harsha Bhogle (@bhogleharsha) January 31, 2017
Is Parthiv Patel injured because dropping him makes absolutely no sense here! #INDvBAN
— Sameer Allana (@HitmanCricket) January 31, 2017
Gotta feel for #ParthivPatel, played well in the last internationals, played like a monster in the #RanjiTrophy final, but has to loose out
— Roshan Koshy (@RoshanRVK) January 31, 2017
Why Parthiv dropped out? #IndvsBan
— Bushra (@bushrareal202) January 31, 2017
WTF @bcci why is @parthiv9 dropped?? So one need a strong backing instead of performance to play for India. @AmitShah @GujCricketAsso
