While the Indian senior team is busy locking horns with Jason Holder’s Windies in the third ODI at MCA Stadium in Pune, India ‘B’ and India ‘C’ are crossing swords in the final of the Deodhar Trophy at Feroz Shah Kotla in New Delhi. The likes of Ajinkya Rahane and Ishan Kishan helped India ‘C’ score a mammoth 352 for the loss of seven wickets in their allotted 50 overs.
After winning the toss and electing to bat, India ‘C’ didn’t allow their opponents to clinch the ascendancy as Rahane and Kishan cobbled together a magnificent stand of 210 runs in 183 deliveries. It eventually was left-arm fast bowler Jaydev Unadkat, who broke the partnership, by trapping Kishan for 114 from 87 balls. His knock was laced with 11 fours and half-a-dozen sixes.
Rahane remained not out
The left-handed batsman was the more aggressive between the two as Rahane put his head down to play until the very end. After Kishan’s dismissal, Ajinkya Rahane didn’t get flustered and kept building useful partnerships with the batsmen thereafter. Being the skipper of the team, the Maharashtra-born cricketer showed maturity and never played a rash stroke.
The seasoned campaigner notched a gritty 144 runs in 156 balls with the help of nine boundaries and three hits into the stands. The batsman has been out of contention for a place in the Indian limited-overs team for quite a while. He has been playing red-ball cricket, but his last appearance in coloured-clothing cricket came during India’s tour of South Africa earlier this year.
The 2019 World Cup in England and Wales is knocking on the doors and Rahane, for the time being, doesn’t seem to feature in India’s plans for the mega event. Nevertheless, he has the potential to stake his claim back into the mix. In the meantime, Twitter hailed both Rahane and Ishan for their masterful knocks under pressure.
Here is how Twitter reacted
: Meanwhile, Ajinkya Rahane has just scored 144* effortlessly. Are you watching selectors? @BCCI #INDvWI

@StarSportsIndia #INDvsWI #asktheexpert why only Rishab Pant and no one is talking about Ishan Kishan because the way he's playing he shouldn't be ignored in this form.

This lad Ishan Kishan deserves a place in the Indian t20 team. Superb stuff. #INDvWI #AUSvIND

Not such a bad knock from Ajinkya Rahane by the end of it. Fully expecting MSK Prasad to drop KL Rahul without playing a single game and bring Rahane back as the back up opener. Expect the unexpected w these selectors.

Ajinkya Rahane should have been in WC team. WC team of 2003 / 07 WC. What a gun limited overs player he would have been back then. Pity#DeodharTrophy

Watching a Ajinkya Rahane special always brings a huge smile on our faces, be it any team, any format.
Hope this form continues to grow in the Australia series as well. Well played @ajinkyarahane88. Team India surely needs you & your solidarity in the middle order. #INDBvINDC

"Ishan kishan" #BCCI have to thinking about this guy india needed some one power hitter at middle or lower order in indian team like dhoni.

Ishan Kishan is such an international material.

Just Because he is from Jharkhand, he has been parameters for selection are very different for him. @BCCI was too scared of Kedar Jadhav, that his one verdict earned him a place in the national squad. Ishan Kishan is technically superior to many players in the squad. @sports_tak

Ishan Kishan has been in terrific form throughout the Vijay Hazare Trophy, and now in the #DeodharTrophy . But still he doesn't find place ahead of players like Manish Pandey, Shreyas Iyer who showed lack of batting form since a long time. @sports_tak @vikrantgupta73
— Er. Harsh Raj (@harsh_rajs) October 27, 2018
Ishan kishan is better than Rishab pant
— kishore (@funkykishore) October 27, 2018
If you are selecting Shreyas Iyer & Manish Pandey in the T20s then let me tell you that ISHAN KISHAN is a way better option than these 2 atleast in thr T20s….And yes both he & Pant can play in the Middle Order doesn't matter if one keeps & other has to Field.#INDvWI #AUSvIND
