Twitter Reactions: All-round Multan Sultans thrash Quetta Gladiators to record biggest win in PSL history
Quetta Gladiators have now lost their last three games in PSL 2022.
Multans Sultans produced a dominating show against Quetta Gladiators in the 25th match of PSL 2022. Riding on a terrific batting display, the defending champions walked away with a 117-run triumph, the biggest win in PSL history in terms of runs.
Earlier in the match, Multan Sultans won the toss and chose to bat at the Gadaffi Stadium in Lahore. Shan Masood and Mohammad Rizwan came out with a clear mindset of going after the bowling straightaway and the Sultans raised to 64 at the end of powerplay without any loss of wicket. Sohail Tanvir in particular, had suffered a lot as the openers made use of the fielding restrictions. The carnage from the batters continued after the powerplay as well.
Masood hit a valiant 38-ball 57 with six fours and one six and it took 12 overs for the Gladiators to claim the first wicket. Rizwan and Rossouw took on from where Masood left. The bowlers did not have any respect from Rossouw as he played a brilliant innings of 71 off just 26 deliveries with four sixes and nine fours.
Kushdil Shah came in at Rossouw’s downfall in the 19th over and he hit two boundaries in the four balls he faced. The skipper Rizwan played an outstanding innings from end and he remained unbeaten on 83 off 54 balls with three sixes and seven fours to take the total to 245 for 3 in 20 overs.
Quetta Gladiators collapse massively in a big run chase
In reply, in-form opener Will Smeed was dismissed early by David Willey for just one run while Jason Roy cut loose from one end. Ahsan Ali followed Smeed and it was up to Roy and Umar Akmal to get the score going. Roy in particular, was going well until he was picked up by Willey to leave the big responsibility to Akmal.
Akmal hit six sixes and two fours in his 23-ball fifty and was the last hope for his side, however, Tahir picked up the big wicket of Akmal soon to leave the Gladiators in total disarray. In the end, the Gladiators were wrapped up for 128 runs in 15.5 overs and except Rumaan Raees, all bowlers from the Multan Sultans were among the wickets column. With the win, the Multan Sultans stay at the top of the points table with seven wins in eight games while the Quetta Gladiators are down into the fifth position.
