Twitter Reactions: Australia enjoys run-fest against West Indies in Day1 of the 1st Test
Early in the day on a greenish wicket, Australia were wobbling at 121/3. Opener Joe Burn, David Warner and skipper Steve Smith were back in the hut by the 24th over of the day’s play. Among the three batters, it was in-form Warner who once again looked threatening, as he plundered 11 boundaries.
Warrican nipped him out shortly before the lunch break. It was far from Warrican’s best delivery, a ball that turned down the leg side, but Warner managed just a tickle on it and Denesh Ramdin snapped up the catch to remove Warner for 64 from 61 balls.
Adam Voges was patient and batted well to notch up his third century, he did not stop there and went past his previous best of 130. He found the gaps to perfection and eased passed all the milestones that came his way.
Shaun Marsh who made his way into the squad replacing Usman Khawaja during the day-night Test capitalized this opportunity and scored the second hundred of his 16-match Test career.
At stumps, Voges was unbeaten on 174 and Marsh was batting on 139 runs, and their partnership of 317 was Australia’s third-highest of all-time against West Indies, for any wicket.
Australia’s run rate had leaped above five an over nearly all day, and only as they blocked out the final few overs before stumps did it dip down into the high fours. Boundaries flowed for most of the day as West Indies served up half-volley after half-volley. Rarely has the term “attack” been more apt against a Test bowling pack.
