Australia extended their lead over India in the ODI series after they beat them by seven wickets in the 2nd ODI. India won the toss and batted first. But the decision suffered a setback after the struggling Shikhar Dhawan was dismissed in the 2nd over itself. However, India then had two century stands. The first one was the second wicket partnership of 125 runs between Virat Kohli and Rohit Sharma took India to a better position till the halfway of the innings. The partnership was abruptly brought to an end after Virat Kohli was run-out in the 23rd over. But, this did not affect India in any way as Ajinkya Rahane continued from where Virat Kohli had left and shared a 121 runs stand with Sharma.

Rohit Sharma produced yet another splendid century, proving his authority as the best ODI specialist for India. Sharma reached his 10th ODI in the 37th over. Rahane also worked his way to his half-century. However, the partnership was brought to an abrupt end after Sharma was run out by James Faulkner at the non-strikers end.  Sharma, to be honest, looked immortal today and that was the only way he could have been dismissed.

In reply, Aaron Finch and Shaun Marsh started cautiously. Particularly Finch, who batting unusually slow but, it was only a matter of couple of overs after his half-century that his strike rate shot up. Both the openers put up a sturdy 145 runs partnership. After their fall of their openers, Steve Smith and George Bailey took the chase forward. Smith was dismissed in the 41st over with still a lot of work left but Bailey and Maxwell took no time to finish off the chase and pocket the game.
