Prior to the ODI series against India, Australia had confidence on their side as the team, captained by Aaron Finch, emerged victorious in the two-match T20I series. The first ODI at the Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium in Hyderabad is currently underway and after the first innings, the game is on the balance as the visiting team managed to rack up a decent score of 236 for seven on the board. Khawaja buckles down After electing to bat first, the Aussies didn’t get off to the best of starts as Jasprit Bumrah picked up Finch for a three-ball duck with a delivery that jagged a tad away to take the batsman’s outside edge. Thereafter, Usman Khawaja and Marcus Stoinis put their heads down and cobbled together a useful stand of 87 runs from 112 balls. Kedar Jadhav nipped out Stoinis for 37 to break the stand. Peter Handscomb scored a laboured 19 before falling prey to chinaman bowler’s guile and trajectory. MS Dhoni didn’t have any trouble in stumping the right-hander. At the other end, Khawaja looked determined and accomplished a well-compiled half-century with five fours and an over-boundary. Unfortunately, Kuldeep churned out his prized scalp at the half-way mark of the innings. Coulter Nile and Carey guide Australia Following Khawaja’s dismissal, Glenn Maxwell and debutant Ashton Turner had the onus of taking their team to a decent score. Turner looked confident during his stint in the middle, having scored 21 runs from 23 balls. Mohammed Shami cleaned him up to cut short his knock. Maxwell started briskly but slowed down a tad. He was nipped out by Shami after he notched 40 runs with five boundaries. With more than 10 overs remaining, Alex Carey and Nathan Coulter-Nile put their heads down and made sure that the Aussies end up with a respectable score. The duo put on a priceless 62 runs from 60 balls. Carey remained not out on 36 from 37 balls with five fours. Coulter-Nile scored 28 runs from 27.
