Twitter Reactions: Babar Azam shines as bad light interrupts Day 1 of the second Test
The middle session saw a short rain break but the proceedings finally ended due to fading light as no play looked possible after Tea.
After having won the toss in the second Test, Pakistan decided to bat first at the Shere Bangla National Stadium, Mirpur. The visitors reached 161/2 at Tea before the day’s play was called off due to rain. Pakistan lost their openers Abid Ali (39) and Abdullah Shafique (25) in the first session after they stitched in a partnership of 59 runs to dominate the first hour of the day.
Bangladesh’s spinners toiled hard to take command of the game. Their efforts paid them big rewards as Taijul Islam sent the two inform openers back to the hut. He was introduced to the play after just ten overs and he did what was expected of him.
Taijul bowled a good length ball around off stump wherein batter Abid Ali thought that he could create enough but ended up playing it off the inside of the bat that went onto hit the stumps. Further, another good delivery from the spinner helped Bangladesh get rid of Abdullah Shafique.
Babar Azam extends his run-scoring spree
Shakib Al Hasan who made his return to the second Test match was also quite economical with the ball. The spinners looked in splendid touch before lunch and it seemed that they might chip in with a few more breakthroughs soon.
However, skipper Babar Azam (60*) and Azhar Ali (36*) then held the fort of the side. Their experience weathered the storm as they stood firm on the pitch and denied giving away their wicket. They gathered unbeaten 91 runs for the third wicket which provided the visitors an early advantage. The middle session saw a short rain break but the proceedings finally ended due to fading light as no play looked possible after Tea on Day one.
Here is how Twitter reacted to Day 1 of the clash:
Pakistan have a lead of 1-0 in the Test series
After having dominated the proceedings in the first Test match, the Babar Azam-led side will have their spirits high to continue their good form. The team will rely heavily on their powerful batting unit which helped them emerge triumphant in the previous Test. The hosts on the other hand will look to punch above their weight in the second Test in order to avoid a whitewash.
