Twitter Reactions: Bangladesh recreate history with a win against Australia
Twitter didn't leave any stone unturned when it came to lauding Shakib and other Bangladesh players or trolling Wade or other Aussies.
Two days, two occasions and we’ve witnessed two historic Test matches. If yesterday, it was the Windies scripting a victory chasing a target of 322 against the English team in their own backyard. Today we saw Bangladesh winning their first ever Test match against Australia.
When the Australians signed off at 109/2 yesterday, the visitors could surely witness a glimmer of hopes with David Warner and Steve Smith at the crease. The first session did start off well for the Aussies as David Warner struck his 19th Test century on an important day for the visitors.
However, his wicket triggered a collapse in the batting ranks of the visitors like always. The Australian team has been inferior players of spin and we saw that during their India and Sri Lanka tours. This was yet another classic example of the same. Shakib Al Hasan, probably one of the greatest all rounders to have played the game sent both Warner and Smith back to the pavilion.
These wickets were important in reviving Bangladesh’s hopes for a Test victory over the Kangaroos after Warner had dashed it up to some level earlier. Whether it was Peter Handscomb or Matthew Wade, the lower order faltered like a pack of cards as the hosts could sense the victory bells ringing. Ashton Agar too failed to recreate his magic with the bat from the first innings and the wicket of Glenn Maxwell further reduced the Australians to 199/8.
However, Australia has been a team which refuses to give up no matter what the situation is. Pat Cummins opted to counterattack and batted superbly and took it really close for Australia. He stayed not out till the end but Josh Hazlewood’s wicket was the final nail in the coffin as the Bangladesh fans erupted in joy.
This was the first ever victory for Bangladesh against Australia. Shakib Al Hasan took a stupendous five-wicket haul again in the second innings and quite deservingly was also rewarded the Man of the Match. Having scored a half century and attained match figures of 10/153, Shakib proved why he’s been such a valuable asset for the side.
With this win, the hosts lead the series 1-0 with one match to go. Both teams will now travel to Chittagong for the final test. Twitter didn’t leave any stone unturned when it came to lauding Shakib and other Bangladesh players or trolling Wade or other Aussies.
