After ending their 15-match losing streak in the previous game, the St Lucia Stars were up against St Kitts and Nevis Patriots at the DSNC stadium in St Lucia. However, they failed to carry the momentum forward into this game and played some awful cricket. Hence, as a result, St Nevis and Patriots bagged a massive win in this game to move up to the fourth place on the points table.

On the same ground where the Stars’ batsmen put up totals of 212 runs and 226 runs batting first in the last two games, they only managed to get 69 runs in this game. It was quite a straightforward chase for Patriots as they won the game by 7 wickets and with more than 12 overs to spare. The St Lucia Stars will now have to win all of their remaining four games if they to stand a chance to qualify into the playoffs.

The Stars’ batsmen fall like a house of cards

St Lucia Stars’ skipper Kieron Pollard lost the toss yet again and hence his side was put into bat first. What followed next was just a disaster. The Stars lost 4 wickets in 5 overs. While Cottrell and Lamichhane picked one wicket each in the powerplay, Mahmudullah picked two. Most of their ace batsmen were dismissed for a single-digited score.

Only two batsmen, Qais Ahmed and David Warner reached the double-figure mark in the innings. However, that wasn’t sufficient for the Stars to get to a good score. While Ahmed got out for 24, Warner managed to get 14 runs. Sheldon Cottrell picked three wickets while Mahmudullah and Lamichhane picked two wickets each as the Stars were bowled out for 69 runs.

Never gets easier than this

Chasing just 70 runs in a T20 game is like a dream. Seldom do we witness such small chases in a T20 game. Hence, the Patriots batsmen feasted on the Stars’ bowlers right from the first ball. But, in an attempt to go hard after the bowlers, the team also lost three wickets. Evin Lewis scored 13 off 6 balls to start things off. Devon Thomas remained unbeaten on 38 runs which came off 21 balls. Skipper Chris Gayle didn’t even come out to bat as his side won the match by 7 wickets with 12.2 overs to spare.

Twitterati wasn’t pleased with St Lucia Stars’ batting performance. They lashed out at them for the poor shot selection and the low total. The fans also congratulated the Patriots for the remarkable performance and the easy win.
